We have ran/mushed more bridges then I can count and some were beyond incredible BUT its really hard to coordinate the proper filming to truly capture the moment as we are just a pimple on what can be massive bridges. That being said when you put great minds & people together you can accomplish almost anything! This is such an important section here on my website as some of the bridges we crossed seem not possible especially the NARROW ONES! Don't forget the dogs need the proper training & confidence to handle some of these bridges and a lot can go into that.
Some are surface problems from the likes of draw bridges maybe having grating that has to be small enough as to not pose a risk to a dog's paw falling through also bridges with wide gaps in planks that can pose a risk to their paws. In addition overlooks like chainlink fence that offer a full view of the side of a bridge can scare a dog as their vision is different from a humans and depending on the lighting also it can appear as there is no barrier to keep the dog from falling over! Checkout my photo gallery of the 5 photos accompanying this post. You'll see how narrow bridges also can pose another big issue that requires more specialized dog training. You can see in these photos also I have videos on this post of more narrow bridge passages that all have to be seen to believe! I mean the dog's perception of body awareness is so accurate. They barely touch a hair as they're almost (they are not) pinched on booth sides and yet they effortlessly navigate the tightest spaces perfectly, WOW! Again my pictures and videos are the PROFF you have to see to believe!
There are many other aspects that can cause an issue for a dog to be apprehensive to cross a bridge. My biggest issue of crossing bridges I've noticed with dogs in almost 30 years of running dogs is when they can see what's beneath them from conditions like plank spacing that may be tight enough to not pose a risk for their paw getting caught, but wide enough for them to see what their crossing over. I haven’t had too many issues of my dogs crossing bridges because my training focuses on building confidence in them from many perspectives. BUT I have personally learned so much and have helped so many of my dogs through my training be undeterred by bridges that being said they can always surprise you and the slightest thing that you may not even understand can hinder them from wanting to cross a bridge.
